Light technology entered into the 3rd millennium with new products – semiconducting high efficiency light sources LED.

Energy saving

The dynamic development of worlds’ economy is closely connected to electrical power. The only solution is searching for energy saving solutions in every domain. LED diodes produced at the moment belong to high efficient light sources group (80-130 lm/W). LED diodes are one of the fastest developing technologies allowing saving precious electrical energy in a significant way.

Life span

LED diodes significantly distinguish from the other light sources with their life span. According to different research, the average time after which the LED diode stops to light is even 100 000 operating hours. In case of LED diodes we should use the definition of useful life span. The advantage of LED diodes is that there is no catastrophic cease in operation as it is in case of traditional light sources.

Durability

Lamps with LED diodes are resistant to strikes, shocks, vibrations and ambiance influence – high and low temperatures. They can be used in place, where until now light installation was not possible or very difficult. Light fittings with LED diodes do not require any special protections, as they have incomparably higher mechanic durability than the light sources used so far. In comparison to those they can seem to be indestructible. LED diodes do not contain filaments and glass elements.

No infrared radiation (IR) in the emitted light beam

LED diodes, different from fluorescent lamps do not have any harmful UV radiation on the spectrum. LED diodes found their use very fast in lighting of very sensitive to UV radiation, museum exhibits, galleries and illumination of ancient monuments.

Oriented light stream

LED diodes have accurately defined solid angle of light distribution. There are no losses connected to the light distribution. Because of that it is possible to design illuminated areas easy and precisely.

Switch on and switch off time

LED diodes differ from the previous light sources generations with short switch on and switch off time. Switch on time of LED diode do not exceed 100 ns, and the switch off time – 200 ns. In comparison to bulbs, especially discharge lamps these times are millions times shorter! Typical bulb achieves 90 % of its luminosity after 200 ms. Switching off times of discharge lamps and fluorescent lamps are even longer and sometimes reach even couple of minutes.

Easiness of control and service

Because LED diodes are semiconductors they can be supplied and controlled in the very same way that any other electronic devices. The fadeout or even change of colour of LED lamp light is not a problem. It is possible to place electronic system including microprocessor in the lamp, which will control the operation of LED lamp.

Safety

Fittings equipped with LED lamps are much safer for the user that other light sources. Firstly, they can be supplied with safe constant and low voltage and there is no threat of electric shock when handled carelessly. Secondly, there is no scintillation, which can be a reason of explosion or fire in mines, chemical facilities or in other places where gas installation is used. Finally, LED diodes do not contain poisonous substances and do not have any breakable glass elements, which could be broken and threat an injury.

Environmental protection

Replacement of traditional light sources with modern solutions based on LED technology will lead to almost 10 % decrease of demand for electrical power throughout the world. Proportionally, carbon dioxide and carbon oxide emission will decrease. Another advantage of LED lamps and diodes is the easiness of utilization in comparison to fluorescent lamps, which contain among others poisonous mercury compounds. LED diodes are made from materials, which are not harmful to the natural environment.

Stroboscopic effect

Many people use traditional light sources, despite from the energy saving of fluorescent lights and their not so high any more prices. Why? Because they see flickering of the lamps of 50 Hz frequency. This flickering can be very tiring, can cause headaches, eye sores, cause migraine. LED lamps are completely deprived of this unpleasant feature.

Monitoring

Currently in many European cities, in order to improve inhabitants’ safety, monitoring of streets and public areas is used. Because of that reason white light is recommended in the whole EU. LED diodes emit white light, which renders the best the vision registered by cameras. This vision allows to catch specifics, so it is perfect for identifying the figures.
